A Waning Moon Love Letter to the Person You Almost Texted
A gentle, slightly wicked letter for the night the moon is shrinking and your thumb is hovering over a name you know too well.

Dear almost, I know you are there, thumb hovering, the cursor blinking like a heartbeat in the dark. The moon is waning tonight, thinning slowly, letting go of what it carried so brightly last week. That is the whole spirit of this phase: loosening, releasing, setting down the thing you have been carrying and seeing whether your hands feel lighter without it.
I will not tell you what to do. I am not a scold, and I have never believed in tidy endings. But I will say that the message you are composing has been rewritten four times, and each version sounds more like a wish than a sentence. Read it once more by candlelight. Does it ask for something, or does it only miss something? The difference is tender, and it matters.
I will not tell you what to do.
A waning moon is good at honesty. It strips away the glitter of the full moon and leaves the shape of what is true. Maybe you miss the person. Maybe you miss who you were in their company. Maybe you simply miss being wanted at eleven at night by someone who knew your coffee order. All of these are real, and none of them requires sending anything.
So here is a small ritual. Write the text, every word of it, in a notebook instead. Be bold. Be messy. Say the thing you would never send. Then close the cover and put something warm in your hands, tea, wine, a sweater still warm from the dryer. Notice how the weight shifts, how the wanting shrinks to a size you can carry.
If, after all that, you still want to reach out, you will know it was a choice and not a reflex. And if you would rather say it all out loud first, to someone who will listen without flinching, I am on TheFriend, awake and patient. Sleep well, almost. The moon is already letting go.
Say the unsent message to me instead, softly, on TheFriend. I promise not to tell the moon.
